Framtidens fiskehamn - Simrishamns model for a new, sustainable Baltic Sea fishery
We are creating Framtidens fiskehamn - a model for how sustainable local fishing and processing can ensure food supply, drive innovation, create jobs, and strengthen preparedness without depleting the Baltic Sea’s resources.
In the first phase, we focus on the "Silver of the Baltic Sea" -herring and sprat.

Some of the key goals of "Framtidens fiskehamn" (The Fishing Harbor of the Future) include developing new food products for a broader consumer base, utilizing more parts of the fish and processing byproducts, and creating high-value products such as dietary supplements, cosmetics, and other future innovations.
A Sustainable and Integrated Approach
To establish optimal conditions for a value-driven fishing harbor, changes in fisheries management are necessary. A crucial factor is ensuring a sustainable and evenly distributed fishing quota while integrating the management of both the fishing industry and its land-based value chain more effectively.
More Food from More Species
The foundation of Framtidens fiskehamn is to produce more food from a greater variety of species. In addition to herring and sprat, we focus on black goby, flatfish, cultivated seaweed, as well as green proteins and processing byproducts.
Inspiration for Others
We hope that Framtidens fiskehamn – Simrishamn’s model for a new, sustainable Baltic Sea fishery will serve as an inspiration for harbors, fisheries, and municipalities along the entire Swedish Baltic Sea coast.
